1. What is CT Coronary Angiography ?

CT Coronary Angiography is a medical test for heart, it is a daycare process, non-invasive or minimal invasive (Only one needle prick) test which tells about blockage in coronary arteries, location of blockage, nature of blockage, calcium score, Plural effusion, cardiac chambers, pericardium, pulmonary arteries, pulmonary veins, aorta etc.

2. HOW CT CORONARY ANGIOGRAPHY TAKES PLACE?

It takes place on CT Scan machine, A person needs to lay down by the back on the sliding table, this sliding table moves inside the machine, then patient is asked to hold breath for 8-10 seconds, a dye or contract is injected through IV line by the machine. A high-resolution camera moves 360 degrees in the machine's circular part and takes images of heart from different angles. Patient's head and lower body part remains outside the machine, only upper body chest part is covered as shown in the picture.

Two types of scans are taken, first scan is plane and second scan is with contrast.

3. HOW MUCH TIME IT TAKES PLACE?

It takes only 5-10 minutes on CT machine for CT Coronary Angiography if all the required parameters are normal, Reports usually take 4-5 hours.

  • 2-3 hours of fasting required. (Water can be taken)
  • Blood urea and serum creatinine must be normal.
  • Heart rate must be normal (70 / minute or below)
  • Blood pressure must be normal
