Effect Of EECP Treatment On Plasma Nitric Oxide And Endothelin-1 Levels
Nitric oxide is produced by the endothelial cells lining the arteries, it is a signalling molecule of the body. It penetrates the underlying smooth muscles and acts as a potent vasodilator that relaxes the arteries. It also keeps the endothelium in shape by curbing inflammation and oxidative stress. It helps in regulation blood pressure of the body.
According to a study conducted by NIH, EECP significantly augments diastolic blood flow and has been postulated to improve endothelial function by increased shear stress. During the course of EECP treatment, plasma NOx progressively increases and plasma ET-1 progressively decreases. It provides neurohormonal evidence to support the hypothesis that EECP improves endothelial function.
